School has begun and so has cold season, so Mama is ready to make some natural remedies to keep our immune systems happy and healthy. I just made my first batch of lactofermented dilly beans, which have been bubbling on the shelf for nearly a week. They are not quite ready, but I'm delighting in one everyday to see how their flavor changes. This week I'm going for a Weiss family favorite, the pickle. The pickle has the potential to be the common ground among all the lactofermented delights in our home. The are so many great sources of dietary probiotic rich foods, check out this amazing list!
I loved going to the Jewish deli as a kid and taking home one of those humongous pickles from the barrel. Not to mention the deli always served a dish of pickled carrots, cabbage and two types of pickles as soon as your seated. Maybe, my kitchen will be like those cool Jewish deli's and my kids will become accustomed to probiotic rich veggies on their table everynight. Up to now, Mama sneaks and pours kim chi juice into the families beans upon serving and soaks the morning oats with homemade kombucha. Hope you too have some fun fermenting your farm fresh harvest and keeping healthy this season with love from mama earth.
Here's my general list of healthy family kitchen helpers:

What else is on your list friends?
